Overview:- What is printer? Types of printers 1.Impact printers:- Dot matrix printers Line printers Band printers 2. Non-impact printers:- Ink jet printers Laser printers

Printer:-  A printer is a device that accepts text and graphic output from a computer and transfers the information to paper, usually to standard size sheets of paper  Printers vary in size, speed, sophistication, and cost. In general, more expensive printers are used for higher-resolution color printing

Types Of printers:-  Printers Personal computer printers can be distinguished as impact or non-impact Impact printers:-  Early impact printers worked something like an automatic typewriter, with a key striking an inked impression on paper for each printed character  Creates image by using pins or hammer tp press an inked ribbon against paper  The best example of impact printers is type writer which is not generally used today

Example of impact printer:-

 Impact printers are further divided into following three types:- 1.Dot Matrix Printers 2.Line Printers 3.Band Printers  Dot Matrix Printers :-  It creates image by print head which contains cluster of short pins arranged in one or more columns  Printers pushes pins or receiving signal from pc  Pins strike ribbon they press ink from ribbon onto paper

 Pins are combination of characters  Pins are directly proportional to resolution

 Line printers:-  it works like dot matrix printer  It doesn’t have large resolution capacity but has fastest speed  It uses a special wide print head that can print an entire line or text at one time  It can print 3000 lines per minute

 Band Printers:-  It has rotating band exposed with alphanumeric characters  Machine rotates the band to desires character then a small hammer tapes the band, processing the character against ribbon  Band printers are very fast and very robust  Good quality band printer can print 2000 lines per minute depending on the character set used

Band printer:-

 Non-impact printers:- Non impact printers are further divided into following two main types 1.Ink jet printers 2. Laser printers  Ink jet printers:-  It creates image directly by spraying in through tiny nozzles  It can print 2 to 4 pages per minute  Low cost as compared to laser printer  Many ink jet printers use black cartridge and also separate cartridge for color printing

 Color ink jets printers have four nozzles: cyan(blue), magenta(red), yellow, and black also referred to as CMYK  These four colors are almost in all color printings because it is possible to combine them to creat any image  Many ink jets can produce photo- quality images  They are often used to print pictures taken with a digital camera

Inkjet printer:-

 Laser printers:-  They are expensive but have higher print quality and faster  Laser can aim at a point on drum creating an electric charge  Toner composes of tiny particles of ink, sticks to drum with pressure and heat drum is transferred on to the paper  A color laser printer uses a single color model rather than four cartridges in ink jet printer  Single color(black) laser printers can produce between 4 to 16 pages per minute  They are more reliable and efficient than ink jet printers

Laser printer:-
