Academic Leave of Absence(ALOA) Application Online Academic Leave Application Required info sessions begin in October 2014 and last until March 13, 2015 Must attend in order to set up application account For Fall 2015, Spring 2016 or full-year , deadline is ….

March 15, 2015

ALOA Application Information about you and your progress toward graduation Essay and advisor approval Justification for fall or spring request Once you have selected a program, you will submit: Preliminary transfer of credit forms Waiver form for international programs Insurance verification

Transfer of Credit Information Must be enrolled as a full-time student as defined by the program ALOA semester = 4 courses/16 credits One CD course counts from ALOA if taken abroad or on certain US programs Courses may count toward major but not toward curriculum distribution ALOA courses do not count toward 3 course/12 credit transfer limit Credits transfer but grades do not

Affiliated Programs Have been approved by Oberlin department or program and the Off-Campus Study Committee Oberlin financial aid/scholarship and federal aid will apply if qualified Includes GLCA-recognized programs

Non-affiliated programs Not specifically approved by an Oberlin department or program Only Federal financial aid will apply to the program cost if qualified Approval for ALOA and transfer of credit may be more difficult

Financing Study Away Generally, family contribution is still expected. On ENR semester programs (London and PRESHCO) tuition and fees apply. Oberlin tuition is charged for other programs. Room and board charges are determined by the program fees. Consortial and Oberlin Affiliated programs allow Oberlin and Federal aid to apply to tuition for the semester. Non-affiliated programs allow federal aid to apply if student qualifies. For answers to specific financial questions, contact the Office of Financial Aid.

Suggestions for planning l Narrow down list of majors/declare your major l Discuss study away plans with advisor in major department l Take a look at the study away website: oberlin.edu/studyaway l As early as October 2014: Attend a required information session to start ALOA application account l Meet with study abroad advisor
