The Legend of King Arthur
Arthur Believed to be based off the life of various people combined into one person. One of these people was Riothamus, which means the "King of the Britons". The baptismal name for him would have been Artorius. ("An Archeological Quest for the 'real' King Arthur.") Riothamus was a great warrior and fearless leader that led an army against the Visigoths, alongside the Romans, Franks, and Burgundians. ("KING ARTHUR’S FRENCH ODYSSEY.") "B_art1.jpg."
Chivalry & Courtly Love Courtly Love allowed people to love another person even if they were married. An example of this is when Arthur's wife Guinevere fell in love with Sir Lancelot. ("Courtly Love.") Chivalry was more of a moral system. ("Medieval Code of Chivalry.") Knights had to show bravery, courtesy, honor, and gallantry toward women. ("Medieval Code of Chivalry.") Knights There were three steps to becoming a knight: page, squire, and knight. ("Middle Ages Knights." ) It took years to become a knight. ("Middle Ages Knights.") Sons of nobles were sent to live in castles. There they attended "Knight School". ("Middle Ages Knights.") Lives were very strict due to codes of chivalry & courtly love. ( "Middle Ages Knights.") Knights continued Knights made some of these Oaths during the Knighthood Ceremony. ("Medieval Code of Chivalry." ) 1.Swore an oath of allegiance to his lord. ("Medieval Code of Chivalry.") 2. Must treat a women with respect even if he is married and protect her at all costs. ("Medieval Code of Chivalry.") 3.Follow fasts and make an offering in church. ( "Medieval Code of Chivalry.") Merlin Merlin was believed to be Arthur's adviser, prophet, and wizard. ("Security Alert.") Was also the adviser to Arthur's father, Uther Pendragon. ("Merlin - Myth Encyclopedi..). Guinevere Arthur's wife who then betrayed him by falling in love with his best knight, Lancelot. ("King Arthur - Guenevere.") Sir Lancelot and Guinevere's affair was kept a secret, but when it was discovered it ruined the round table. "Queen Guinevere" Guinevere was from France. Arthur married her to try and unite the feuding countries. (" The Marriage of King Arthur) She was said to be the most beautiful woman in the land, which got her abducted numerous times in the legend. ("Arthurian Women.")
Camelot There is no evidence that Camelot is real because it is not proven that Arthur was a real person. "The Legends of Camelot." Camelot symbolized a time of hope, prosperity, and success. Said to be where knights lived accordingly to the "Code of Chivalry". "Camelot." "Camelot.jpg"
