A Voyage Through Latin America

You and your family are taking a trip to Latin America. You will visit three primary locations: Mexico, Jamaica, and Brazil. As you visit each destination, complete your travel brochure to describe your travels!

Mexico City You and your family arrive in Mexico City. You are excited to see the city. Mexico City is Mexico’s primary city, which means it dominates the economy, culture, and politics of the entire area. You know you will learn a lot here.

Sierra Madres The beautiful mountains line the city. The different elevations cause different temperatures.

The Cathedrals in Mexico City are a beautiful mixture of old European architecture and Christian Faith. Did you know that over 80% of the people in Latin America are Catholic?

In Mexico City, there is a blend of modern buildings and older architecture. You are really interested in seeing the Mexican Stock Exchange. Those skyscrapers make you feel like you are in the USA!

The Angel Flying over Mexico City is a great example of the blending of the old and new.

The Pollution in Mexico City

Smog is so terrible driving days are restricted!

Today, Mexico City is one of the most overcrowded cities in the world

Mexico City was built on the ruins of the Aztec Empire. Today there are still many Native American people seeking rights.

Before you leave Mexico City, take a few minutes to complete your travel brochure!!!

Off to Jamaica!

Jamaica was formerly a Maroon Colony, or a colony made up of freed and escaped slaves. The African Influence is still felt in Jamaica

While you are in Jamaica, you go to a local concert where you hear new kinds of music: Reggae, Calypso and Steel Drums.

The waters of Jamaica encourage people from all over to visit.

The Poverty in Jamaica is a sharp contrast to the wealthy beach resorts

As you leave Jamaica…remember to complete your travel brochure!

Welcome to Brazil Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Your first stop in Brazil is Rio de Janeiro. Rio de Janeiro was formerly the capital of Brazil, until it was moved to Brasilia. This is just one example of how a city’s function changes over time!

Christ the Redeemer- 120 ft tall finished in 1931

Along with cities such as Buenos Aires, Santiago, and Caracas, Rio de Janeiro is located on South America’s populated rim. It is surrounded by the Brazilian Highlands, where you can see steep cliffs and escarpments.

You arrived for the Easter festival in Rio. You could see the African influence blended with the European Catholic religion at play at the celebration.

Here at the festival, you can hear different kinds of music, including the samba. There are many ethnic dances and costumes.

Off to the Rainforest…

The Amazon Rainforest is located in the Amazon Basin. Rainforests contain a variety of trees, insects, and animals. The Amazon Rain Forest is home to nearly half of the world’s plant and animal species

A three-toed sloth

Deforestation is ruining the rainforest. We have already lost 13% of the Amazon Rain Forest. As the forest is depleted, plants and animals are threatened.

Additionally, many of the world’s medicines are derived from the plants and organisms in the Rainforest, deforestation compounds the risk of losing the potential to treat cancer and other illnesses.

The Amazon river extends almost 4,000 miles making it the second longest river in the world.

As you leave Brazil, don’t forget to update your travel brochure!
