Navigation 1 GPS for ICS

Navigation 1 Objectives:  Set up a Garmin GPS III Plus for inputting coordinates.  Manually enter three sets of coordinates into a Garmin GPS III Plus.  Complete the navigate exercise.

Turn on the GPS III Plus Receiver Press and hold the Power/Light button for a second a two to turn the receiver on. The initial receiver status screen appears. This is a good time to check power level before proceeding. MENU Push Menu button twice to access main menu.

Access Waypoints Page Waypoints selection is highlighted. If not, scroll to it using rocker key. ENTER MARK Press Enter button once.

Waypoints page displays all currently saved waypoints. Display also shows how many are saved and how many are available for use. Waypoints Page ENTER MARK Press Enter button once to access waypoint setup page.

With New Waypoint highlighted, press Enter button. Create a New Waypoint Use the rocker key to move around the New Waypoint page. Use Enter key to access and edit any highlighted field on the page. ENTER MARK GPS III PLUS

Name field. Reference allows a new waypoint to be created by using bearing and distance from another saved waypoint. Create a New Waypoint (cont.) Waypoint symbol. Comment field can store a short message. Position field contains the coordinates of the new waypoint. To save new waypoint, highlight Done and press Enter key.

To completely exit New Waypoint page, press Quit button twice. Create a New Waypoint (cont.) QUIT Press and hold the Power/Light button for a second a two to turn the receiver on.

Option 1: Press Enter button twice to access Main Menu and Waypoints page. Navigating to Waypoint ENTER MARK Option 2: From any page, press GOTO button once to access Waypoints page directly. GOTO Either option: After highlighting the desired waypoint, press Enter button to begin navigation on Map page. ENTER MARK

Map page provides a graphical navigation display. Data fields on the right hand side can be turned off to maximize map size, or changed to provide other information. Navigating to Waypoint (cont.)
