THE FOLLOWING PRESENTATION IS BASED ON MY COLLEGE COMPARISON AND CAREER SUMMARY ESSAYS. ENJOY!

The University of Pittsburgh Saint Francis University VS.

WHY SFU AND PITT? I’m targeting these two universities for a number of reasons. Each university has an admirable reputation. Pittsburgh and Saint Francis offer my probable career choice, civil engineering, and consist of excellent engineering programs. SFU is really close to home and Pitt is somewhat close. Both colleges have beautiful campuses and well- known athletic programs.

SIZE AND LOCATION PITTSBURGH The University of Pittsburgh is located in the heart of Pittsburgh. It’s a massive Division 1 school comprising of approximately 28,328 students. The faculty-to-student ratio is 1:17. SAINT FRANCIS Saint Francis University is located in the small town of Loretto, just outside of Johnstown. It’s a small Division 1 school. The school has about 2,210 students. The faculty-to-student ratio is 1:14.

EXPENDITURES PITTSBURGH The in and out-of-state tuitions per year are $13,344 and $23,042, respectively. The room and board costs roughly total $8,900. The average amount that students spend on books is $800. SAINT FRANCIS Saint Francis’s in-state and out-of-state tuitions are $23,790 per year. The room and board costs roughly total $8,422. The average amount that students spend on books is $800.

SCHOLARSHIPS? PITTSBURGH Yes, scholarships are offered. The academic scholarship program is merit based. The university’s athletic teams also give scholarship money to prospective recruits. SAINT FRANCIS Yes, scholarships are offered. Numerous academic scholarships are obtainable, such as the “Founder’s Award.” The university’s athletic teams also give scholarship money to prospective recruits.

FACTORS INFLUENCING ACCEPTANCE PITTSBURGH SAT/ACT Tests Take honors and advanced placement courses in high school. Partake in “College in High School” classes. GPA and overall class rank SAINT FRANCIS SAT/ACT Tests Take honors and advanced placement courses in high school. Partake in “College in High School” classes. GPA and overall class rank NOTE: Two items that aren’t required by either SFU or Pitt, but are highly recommended, are a personal essay and several letters of recommendation. These two items are pivotal for ANY college acceptance program.

HOW CAN I PREPARE FOR COLLEGE? I’m going to focus on math and English so I can be ready for SFU’s and Pitt’s engineering programs. I will sharpen my work ethic and social communication skills as these two attributes apply to my career and campus life. I can practice this at my job. Although it will be agonizingly challenging to compete with my wickedly intelligent peers, I will work hard to boost my class rank and GPA. I plan on interviewing graduates and/or current students attending these universities and hear their opinions about campus.

AND NOW FOR MY CAREER SUMMARY: CIVIL ENGINEERING

INTRODUCTION Civil engineering is a broad field that encompasses a number of branches, such as transportation, environmental, and structural engineering. Civil engineers are responsible for maintaining, designing, and analyzing various infrastructures, such as buildings and roads, predominantly. As our current infrastructure is wearing, the need for civil engineers is increasing. This profession is growing rapidly so I’m optimistic about the employment options. Today, the works of civil engineers are prominent where ever you look.

GENERAL INFORMATION Responsibilities include analyzing the factors of a project and questioning its applications. The national average pay in 2012 is $82,214. A Bachelor’s degree is required, but possessing a Master’s or Ph.D. improves advancement. An attention to English and high-level math classes is essential. A certification is required to work, but only after four years of previous experience under a certified engineer and passing an licensing exam. Be sociable and able to communicate well with other engineers, officials, etc.

THANKS FOR WATCHING GUYS! I HOPE YOU LEARNED SOMETHING. FOLLOW MY COLLEGE PROGRESS ON #yeahiactuallygotoneiknowright
