TEETH & GUMS  Enamel: Hard outer covering of tooth.  Plaque: Residue left on teeth after eating.  Tartar: Hardened substance that develops when plaque is not removed.  Periodontal Disease: Loss of tooth support caused by plaque accumulation. Leads to tooth loss.

SLEEP  Renews physical an mental energies  8-9 Hours  Circadian Rhythms: “Biological Clock”.  Melatonin: Hormone released to enhance sleep state.

SLEEP STAGES  Waking: Feel the need to sleep.  Stage 1: Sleepy. Closed eyes; awake.  Stage 2: Light Sleep. Longest Stage (4 hrs.)  Stage 3: Delta Sleep  Stage 4: Recovery Sleep (deepest sleep)  REM: Dreaming
