1 Student Teaching Orientation Office of Student Teaching and Field Experience 303 Central Hower Wendy Jewell, Coordinator Barb Baltrinic, Liaison Katie Feudner, Administrative Assistant

Student teaching is your Capstone Project that allows you, after successfully completing the semester, to apply for your Teaching License. It is considered to be the most important and challenging component of teacher preparation programs. It is a sixteen week “Professional Internship.” Student Teaching

The objective of student teaching is to provide experiences where students seeking licensure can effectively demonstrate skills in each of the following areas: Planning and Preparation Navigating the Classroom and School Environment Instruction (engaging students in meaningful inst.) Assessment (Formative and Summative) Professional Responsibilities Behavior Management Professional Dispositions Student Teaching

Your student teaching experience requires a large time commitment from you. Full Time Internship. Monday through Friday. 7-8 hours at the school during the day. Evening and weekends will be spent planning and preparing for future instruction. Begin to think about how you will manage all your responsibilities and commitments. Student teaching is a 16 week interview and can be a gateway to a job opportunity. Student Teaching

TPA Requirement The state of Ohio has mandated that beginning Fall 2013, all Pre-service teachers must complete a TPA (Teacher Performance Assessment) during your student teaching experience. Required as part of your Student Teaching course. If you do not complete and upload final TPA portfolio you will fail the course. Cost to you as a student is $300.00

What is edTPA?  edTPA is a pre-service electronic portfolio designed by educators to answer the essential question: "Is a new teacher ready for the job?" It tests application of skills.  edTPA is a summative assessment of the teaching practice that is in alignment of the Ohio teaching standards.  It is a collection of artifacts and commentaries.  It is based on a learning segment of 3-5 days.  Assessed by the State of Ohio using 15 rubrics. 6
