10/30/14 Warm-up Match the Powers! Partners will receive an envelope. Each envelope will contain paper slips about the 3 Branches of Government and their power. Partners will be given 2 minutes to match the correct powers to the correct branch. I will check to see if each group has correctly matched the powers. Expectations: I expect both partners to work together to match the powers. There will be small conversation talk between the partners. The classroom level of talking should be at “Ninja talk” Same seats!!!

Give me 3! The importance of the Checks and Balances: 1.Each branch has different powers given to them. However, each power carries the same weight in all the branches. Think of a seesaw being balanced out by two different kids with the same weight. 1.Not only does each branch have certain powers but they also have certain powers over the other branches. 2.This is done to keep all branches balanced and to prevent one branch from gaining all the power.

Checks and Balance Expectations: Both partners will read about a specific check & balance. They will discuss the reading and decide what the need to teach to the other partner groups. You will have 2 minutes for the reading section. When you are done reading wait to discuss the reading. Both partners will discuss and decide what the will need to speak about with the other groups. They will write down their notes and take that with them when they move.

Checks and Balances Movement: Partner A will move to the desk to the right of them. Taking with them their notes. It should only take 15 seconds to move to the next desk. Conversation: Partner A will get 1 minute to teach their topic to Partner B. When A is talking B will be taking notes. After 1 minute I will say TIME for B and B will then teach A the topic. A will take notes on B’s topic. Once the minute is up I will say switch and partner A will move to the next desk. This will start all over again. Partner APartner B
