 Alabama’s nickname is the Yellowhammer state.  Alabama is located in the southern region of the U.S.A.  The capital city of Alabama is Montgomery.  Three major cities in Alabama are Mobile, Centerville, and Huntsville.  The population is 4,822,023 people.

 Alabama’s state bird is the Yellowhammer.  Alabama’s state tree is the Southern Long Leaf Pine.  Alabama’s state flower is the Camellia. Here is a picture of the state’s flag, bird, and flower:

 The current governor is Robert Bentley.  The state’s senators are Jeff Sessions and Richard Shelby. They are both republican.

 The bordering states of Alabama are Tennessee, Mississippi, and Florida.  The bordering ocean is the Atlantic Ocean.  Alabama has many swamps, hills, plains, and mountains.

 Some of Alabama’s natural resources include wood, water, iron, steel, and oil.  The state of Alabama is good for farming because it has rich soil, and a great amount of water. Alabama relies on cotton, soybeans, peanuts, pecans, and dairy products for money and food.

 Alabama became the 22 nd state in  The United States gained control of Alabama in  In 1917, Alabama ‘s food and cotton was needed for World War II.  In 1995, Rosa Parks was riding the bus in Alabama when she would not give up her seat.

 Centerville has the hottest temperature recorded in the state (112 degrees) and would be a place to visit if you like finding out about world records.  Cheaha Mountain is the highest point in Alabama and there is an amazing view at the top.

 One of the largest motorcycle museums in the U.S.A. is located in Birmingham, Alabama.  A world record 111 pound Blue Catfish was caught in Lake Wheeler, Alabama in  Four species of venomous snakes live in Alabama., The Rattlesnake, The Coral Snake, The Water moccasin and the Copperhead  Northern Alabama along with part of Georgia and Tennessee almost became a separate state before the civil war and would have been called Nick-a-jack.  Montgomery was the first capital of confederacy during the civil war.  The Marshall Space Center in Huntsville, is where scientists developed the first rocket that took U.S. astronauts to the moon.
