Assessment in VET Assessment means the process of collecting evidence and making judgements on whether competency has been achieved, to confirm that an individual can perform to the standard expected in the workplace, as expressed by the relevant endorsed industry/enterprise competency standards of a Training Package or by the learning outcomes of a VET accredited course. eAssessment in the VET sector

National survey results  2009 E-learning Benchmarking Survey  46% of registered training organisations (RTOs) were using e- learning for assessment.  62% teachers and trainers are using online assessment activities eAssessment in the VET sector

eAssesment (defined) E-assessment covers a wide range of activities where digital technologies are used in assessment

Context and background  E-assessment and the AQTF*: Bridging the divide between practitioners and auditors (Callan & Clayton, 2009)  Issues identified:  Lack of diversity in evidence collection  Auditors backgrounds vs Validity  Authenticity  Note: the AQTF has been replaced by Standards for NVR registered training organisations eAssessment in the VET sector

Forms of evidence collection  Text based evidence: quizzes, SMS, IM, discussion forums, chat  Visual evidence: video, camera, phones, screen grabs  Audio evidence: audio tools, plugins  Simulations: from sophisticated to simple  Peer assessment: ASC training and development eAssessment in the VET sector

Authenticity  Develop a relationship with the learner  Gather evidence over time  Ask focussed questions eAssessment in the VET sector
