INTERNATIONAL EXERCISES - PACIFIC PacWave 2006 (Philippines, Chile source) – 44 countries PacWave 2008 (NW Pacific source) – 40 countries PacWave 2011 – Nov 2011 –PTWS Exercise Task Team – meet Wellington, 4 Mar 2011 Chair: ITIC, NZ Civil Defense; Members: PTWC, JMA, countries –Review the PacWave08 Summary Report to identify lessons learned Design and carry out PacWave11 –Intl Communications exercise to test decision-making protocols and procedures; ‘downstream’ national to local exercising, including evacuation decided by country –Multi-source to allow everyone to play, e.g., SW Pacific, South / Central Amer, Cascadia/Alaska, NW Pacific, South China Sea –Provide better exercise conduct guidance to encourage standard methodology, including planning, debrief, and baselining (develop from best practices of NZ, USA, Indonesia, others) –Announce to Member States 180 days in advance (May 2011) –Exercise Manual at least 90 days in advance (Sep 2011)

ITIC Training Program (ITP-Hawaii) Pacific and Caribbean focus FY10 International Funding and NTHMP funding ITIC Training Program (ITP-Hawaii) - Annual –Hawaii as a working example of end-to-end tsunami warning system (hazard assessment, warning and response, preparedness) –PTWC, State/County Civil Defenses, U of Hawaii (GLOSS Sea Level Center, inundation mapping, tsunami-resistant engineering), Pacific Tsunami Museum ITP-Hawaii 2010 (30 Aug – 10 Sep 2010) –16 participants: 9 countries / 1 regional org (3 from US territories/commonwealth) from national TWC and EMA/Disaster Mgmt Org –Tsunami SOPs for warning and emergency response –Enhance stakeholder coordination internationally, nationally and locally for tsunami response and for exercise implementation. Issues –Pending year to year – domestic (NTHMP or other) and international (US WMO VCP – ITP proposal)
