Country DefinitionInternational Definition Two definition were used at the country level: 1- Country used the same MDG definition: Antenatal care coverage (at least one visit) is the percentage of women aged with a live birth in a given time period that received antenatal care provided by skilled health personnel at least once during pregnancy, as a percentage of women age years with a live birth in a given time period (NIS: National Institute of Statistics). 2- The proportion of the pregnant women that received antenatal care services from public health facilities (health centers, referral hospitals, and national hospitals) by trained health personnel (at least one visit) during pregnancy, expressed as percentage of the total number of expected pregnancies (HMIS, Ministry of Health) Antenatal care coverage (at least one visit) is the percentage of women aged with a live birth in a given time period that received antenatal care provided by skilled health personnel at least once during pregnancy, as a percentage of women age years with a live birth in a given time period. Calculation of estimate for MDG by country Calculation of estimate for MDG by international 1) The number of women aged with a live birth in a given time period that received antenatal care provided by skilled health personnel at least once (four times) during pregnancy, is expressed as a percentage of women aged with a live birth in the same period. 2) Number of pregnant women that received antenatal care provided by trained health personnel from any public health facility (health centers, referral hospitals, o r national hospitals) during pregnancy (at least one visit) divided by total expected pregnancy women, and multiply the result by 100. To estimate the total expected pregnant women, a crude birth rate based on the 2008 population census and a mid-year population projection has been used. Antenatal care coverage (at least one visit) is the percentage of women aged with a live birth in a given time period that received antenatal care provided by skilled health personnel at least once during pregnancy, as a percentage of women age years with a live birth in a given time period.
