ASX Sharemarket Trading Game 2013

What is it all about? Students are given a hypothetical $50,000 to trade for a 10 week period. The aim of the game is to make as much money as you can in this time The best way to achieve this is to buy low and sell high If you are lucky you may receive some additional funds in the form of dividends – these are a type of profit sharing activity undertaken by companies at different times of year depending on a number of factors. The game is open to students across Australia See for more information & tutorials, logins etc.

How to play Students can compete either individually or in a group of 2 to 4 students (you each have individual logins but would agree on the same trades at the same time). You research and decide which companies to invest in. Buy and sell shares 'online' in any of the nominated ASX listed companies Orders to buy or sell shares can be placed at any time. Orders will be executed when ASX TradeMatch® is open (10 am to 4 pm) Available prices and quantity of shares from the real sharemarket will be taken from TradeMatch only.

Rules to pay special attention to The first day of trading in the Game is 7 March 2013 and the last day of trading is 15 May 2013 ('Game Period'). An order to buy or sell shares may be placed at any time of the day during the Game Period. Orders will only be processed during the trading hours of ASX TradeMatch®, which are usually AM AEST and 4.10 PM Sydney time Company list: Only shares in the nominated companies that are part of the ASX nominated list (the 'Company List') may be traded. Ordinary shares and bonus shares are the only classes of securities that may be traded in the Game. Hypothetical starting cash: Participants will each commence the Game with a theoretical AUD$50, with which to purchase shares. Surplus funds may be left as 'cash-on-hand'.

Minimum marketable parcel: There is no restriction on how many shares or what value of shares may be bought or sold with your available funds so long as the amount does not breach the diversification rule. 25% diversification rule: A Participant cannot purchase a quantity of shares in one particular company which results in the value of the Participant's total holding in that company comprising 25% or more of the Participant's total portfolio value at the time of purchase.
