BAILII The British and Irish Legal Information Institute. This is a free database and can be accessed without a username or password.

Butterworths Direct The Law School subscribes to some of the services offered on Butterworths Direct, but not all of them. The IT handbook contains a list of the databases we subscribe to.

Casetrack A premium service offered by Smith Bernal. Available via the Justis website.

Lawtel Lawtel is a very popular online database for legal professionals. Access to Lawtel is via Athens

Lexis Nexis Professional Lexis is a very large database. Help with using Lexis is available from the Butterworth’s Student Associate.

Medical Litigation Online A very useful database dealing primarily with medical law.

Westlaw Westlaw is a huge online legal database You can search for cases, legislation and also journal articles.

Free legal Information There is a large amount of free legal information available on the Internet. Many of these sites are listed on the legal links page on the law school website.

CD ROMS Some legal databases are not available on the Internet but on CD ROM. IOLIS Oyez Forms

E-Learning Portal Northumbria University students have access to an e-learning portal. This was formerly known as Blackboard.

Student Printing Each student will receive 1000 free print credits per academic year. Unused credits will not be rolled over.

Desktop Anywhere Useful service that will allow a student to be ‘virtually’ located within the University.

‘U’ Drive Every student has access to 80 mega bytes of network storage
