A Brief History Spelman College is a private, independent, liberal arts, historically Black college for women. The college was founded in 1881 with a mission to provide the highest level of education of Black women in the South

Spelman is a HBCU: Historically Black College/University

Location The gated campus is located in the Atlanta University Center (AUC) AUC: Spelman Morehouse Clark-Atlanta University Morehouse School of Medicine Interdenominational Theological Center (ITC)

Statistics Enrollment - More than 2100 students from 46 states and 16 countries. Student-Faculty Ratio -12:1 80% of faculty hold PhDs or other terminal degrees (highest degree in a field of study).

Statistics 78% graduation rate. The highest amongst HBCUs 1st in the nation for sending African-American females to medical school 77% graduate school/job placement rate. The national placement rate is 25%

Student Life Events and activities are held throughout the year. There are more than 100 registered student organizations; includes seven Greek letter organizations.
