Life/Writing Career Silverstein was an American poet, singer-songwriter, musician, composer, cartoonist, screenwriter, and author of children’s books. Silverstein was an American poet, singer-songwriter, musician, composer, cartoonist, screenwriter, and author of children’s books. He was born in Chicago, and was writing by the time we was 12. He graduated from Theodore Roosevelt High School and went on to attend the Art Institute of Chicago. He was born in Chicago, and was writing by the time we was 12.
