IYCF training 4 in 1 master training Title of Training: – Infant and Young Child Feeding Counseling: The 4 in 1(an integrated Course on Breastfeeding, Complementary feeding, Infant Feeding & HIV and Growth Monitoring- Counseling ) Place of training: – Institute of Medicine,Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital Maharajgung Medical Campus, Kathmandu, Nepal Date of Training: February 9 th to 28 th 2014 Supporting organization- Harvard School of Public Health

Master Trainers (middle level trainers): 8 (TUTH-5, others-3) Pediatricians, nursing supervisors, lecturer for maharajgunj nursing college, nutritionist Participants (front line workers )-: Total 39 – TUTH:29 (MD pediatric residents,Nursing staffs from different wards) – Other institutes- 10

Training material and module – breast feeding, complementary feeding, HIV& infant feeding counseling and growth monitoring developed by BPNI and IBFAN, Asia (version April 2013) Duration of training – 3 weeks – master trainers 84hourswith 18 hours of clinical practice – frontline workers 42 hours with 9 hours of clinical practice.

The training was conducted – with Nepali translation of role plays. – In interactive and friendly environment. The pretest and post test was conducted at the beginning and the end of the training each week.

During the training, – Participant realized difficulties in keeping up-to- date with relation to infant and young child feeding – Participants were found to be highly motivated to establishment of BFHI and IYCF counseling services in hospitals where they work.

Recommendations from the participants : Training course on HIV need to be modified according to the national guidelines on prevention of mother to child transmission of HIV/AIDS. Translation of case scenarios and practical exercises into Nepalese language would have been more beneficial. Training on Infant and young child feeding need to be conducted periodically to train all the staffs working with children as well as to refresh the knowledge and skills of the staffs

WBCi Title- “WBCi : The financial planning tool” Place- Kathmandu, Nepal on 5 th August Duration- half day participants 16 working in the various sectors related to childhood nutrition in Nepal ( government officials, Nepal Pediatric society representatives, Pediatricians, Nurses and representatives of civil society organizations from Nepal) costing exercise using the WBCi tool to work out budget on specific indicator.

Feedback from participants – Participants found the tool to be standardized software and can be very useful in planning for programme implementation plan. – Participants also gave feedback on the ‘user‐friendliness’ and relevance of the tool. – It gave participants an idea about the financial tool for budget estimation for other health programme as well.
