What is a proxy server? A proxy server is a server (a computer system or an application) that acts as an intermediary for requests from clients seeking resources from other servers. What does a proxy server do? A proxy basically hides your IP address and lets you surf through the IP address of the server. A good proxy will offer other security features but this is the most basic thing you will need a proxy for.

What is mail server?  A mail server is an application that receives incoming from local users (people within the same domain) and remote senders and forwards outgoing e- mail for delivery. What does a mail server do? A mail server can receive s from client computers and deliver them to other mail servers. A mail server can also deliver s to client computers. A client computer is normally the computer where you read your s, for example your computer at home or in your office.

What is a server?  A server is a running instance of an application capable of accepting requests from the client and giving responses accordingly. What does a server do? It essential services across a network, either to private users inside a large organization or to public users via the internet.

What is a web server?  Web servers are computers that give Web pages. Every Web server has an IP address and possibly a domain name. What does a web server do? Once contact has been made, the browser requests the data from the Web server, and using HTTP, the server delivers the data back to your browser. The browser in turn converts, or formats, the computer languages that the files are made up of into what you see displayed in your browser. In the same way the server can send the files to many client computers at the same time, allowing multiple clients to view the same page simultaneously.

What is web browser?  A web browser is a software application for retrieving, presenting and traversing information resources on the World Wide Web.  The two most popular browsers are Microsoft Internet Explorer and Firefox. Other major browsers include Google Chrome, Apple Safari and Opera. While most commonly use to access information on the web, a browser can also be used to access information hosted on Web servers in private networks.
