Recycling Paper A Visual Approach

What is Paper? Paper is initially made from virgin fibers from trees in our forests. However, these fibers can be recycled to produce more paper and this will preserve forests. Paper is not just notebook paper. Paper plates, cups, napkins, towels, toilet paper, cardboard, and even our money uses paper.

How much paper waste do we use? Each year “the United States uses about 69 million tons of paper and paperboard” (“Paper Recycling”). “Every year, Americans throw away enough paper and plastic cups, forks, and spoons to circle the equator 300 times” (“Waste”)

ILLUSTRATION DESCRIBING PAPER PRODUCTION FROM START TO FINISH, INCLUDING POTENTIAL PROBLEMS WITH USING NEW PAPER INSTEAD OF RECYCLED PAPER (“THE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT”).

An Illustration of the Paper Recycling Process 1. Collect paper and take it to the curb. 2. Recycle truck picks up paper for recycling. 3. Paper is taken to facility. 4. After sorting, then it is off to the paper mill. 5. Workers then take the recycled paper through a series of steps in order to make new paper. 6. After processing the paper is ready to be made into new products. 7. Forests are preserved since old paper is recycled!!! 8. New paper products are produced and ready to use again!
