COURSE SYLLABUS Master of Science in Engineering and Technology Management ETM 5110 Seminar—Ethics For Practicing Engineers Instructor: Mr. C. Michael Carolina Office: ATRC 204 Telephone: Prerequisite: Admission to the MSETM program or consent of instructor Objective: This course is designed for practicing engineers and scientist who meet the criteria for admission to the Master of Science in Engineering and Technology Management. Is uses a values-based professional ethics approach and its application to decision making in a technology-intensive environment. The course is intended to increase awareness of ethical issues; to focus on the planning and management of a ethics/legal compliance program; to explore leaders’ commitment to principles and ethics, including the fair treatment of employees, rewards for ethical conduct, and concerns for meeting the expectations of external stakeholders. Using case studies and documented cases in current news magazines and media, the course explores ethics as it affects engineering and engineering decisions, general management, entrepreneurship, product development, project management, and risk management.
