Prompt#1 Compare and contrast the role of religion in the founding of the Spanish colonies in the 16th century with that of the English colonies in the 17th century.

Thesis Example #1 Clearly, the role of religion in the founding of the Spanish colonies in the 16th century was particularly different than the role it played in the founding of the English colonies in the 17th century. The role of religion in the founding of the Spanish colony was more of a missionary one in comparison to the English colonies which were founded on the basis of religious persecution in England as seen in the Plymouth and Massachusetts bay colonies.

Prompt #2 Analyze the impact of geography and the environment on the development of at least two different regions of the English colonies along the Atlantic coast in the 17th and 18th centuries.

Example #2 The impact of geography and the environment was more devastating in the development of the colonies in the Chesapeake Region compared to the colonies in the New England region. The geographical location of Jamestown made it difficult to establish itself due to the marshy swamp conditions while the colder climate of the Middle Colonies along with arable land made there development more successful.
