Use of Multimedia in Engineering

Mechatronics engineering is based on the combination from three basic engineering field that is mechaninal, electronics and software engineering. One of the main reason this engineering discipline is created is to analysed about automation in the industry based from engineering perspective and to control and created most advanced hybrid system. The terms of mechatronic can also be referred as electromechanics system or control system and automation. Those three different fields in engineering are being combine in purpose to ensure more easily generation system are being made and also more economical and reliable system is achieved. Our related field is mechatronic

PLC The Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) is the application of the small computer to control many of difference process such as automation machines or factory assembly line. This is actually control device that consist of the programmable microprocessor, and is programmed using a speciallized computer language such as ladder logic to Basic or C. The program is stored in the programmable logic controller in non-volatile memory.

The PLC application is significant to be highlighted because. Application of mechatronic in industry is meant to control the operation of machine or industrial robot. Therefore, in achieving this goal PLC is a medium where it is use to program the movement or process of machine or industrial robot based on a desired task. Based on usage of PLC it relates with the basic knowledge of mechatronic (mechanical, electronic, and software). The relation of the PLC with mechanical knowledge is can be seen like the movement of actuator in robots and machines. In terms of electronic the relation of PLC can be seen in the usage of sensor, relay and etc. other than that the application of PLC is also relates with software skills in terms of simulations process.

Cont….. There are various language to program the movement of machines or robots industry such as C or Assembly language. But the usage of PLC language is globally preferred rather than other programming language because : PLC language is easily to understand Error easily detected when robots and machines operates. The various application of task can easily construct by using PLC.

Advantages in applying PLC It can be reprogrammed where conventional controls must be rewired It takes less floor space than relay control panels It maintenance is easier and reliability is greater It can perform a greater variety of controls functions

The relation between multimedia and PLC. Multimedia is media and content that uses a combination of different content forms. It can also best described as a combination of text, audio, still images, animation, video, or interactivity content forms. As stated previously, PLC software use a few combination of element that contains in building a multimedia as an interesting interface for the user to create a program. It can be seen that by applying the elements of : – Text – using text to write the program in form of coding. – Object – using object to built ladder diagram – Animation – it can be seen when the operation occurs.

Conclusion With the combination of element such as text, object and animation that contain in the PLC so it can be proven that PLC is one of application that relates with multimedia. Reference - Main reference (modul UTHM-DEK 3223-Automation System and Robotics)
