Case study: Reasons for the growth of an urban settlement L/O: To create a case study on an URBAN settlement of your choice in order to show reasons why it has grown Lets recap: What do we mean by the following words: -Site of a settlement -Situation of a settlement -Shape of a settlement -Function of a settlement Write them down in your book What factors do humans consider when they are siting a settlement? Answers: Low flat land Water supply Transport links Resources – industry Woodland for firewood / resources Can you think of any more?

Your case study: reasons for the growth of a settlement You are going to create a ONE A4 page factfile alone or in pairs on the reasons why one urban settlement has grown. You will need to gather evidence from the internet to back up each of your points. 1)Choose one urban settlement you know about.(use a city) 2)Where is it? Country, continent, etc. 3)How many people live there? 4)What site features does it have? 5)Why would these features have made settlement easier? 6)What services does it offer today? (transport? near the sea? High order services? Etc. 7)What industry does it offer? (How do people there make money? Tourism, resources etc) 8)Overall why do you think this urban settlement has grown?
