Total Solar eclipse on 20 th March 2015? The total eclipse will only be visible in the Faroe Islands and Svalbard in Norway. Look for the tiny black shadow.
Solar and Lunar Eclipses
Eclipses When the moon’s shadow hits Earth or Earth’s shadow hits the moon, an eclipse occurs. There are 2 types of eclipses: solar (sun) eclipse & lunar.
Solar and Lunar Eclipse Terms
 When the moon’s shadow hits the Earth or when the Earth’s shadow hits the moon an eclipse occurs.
Eclipses What is the length of time from a new moon to the next new moon? 29.5 Earth days Moon rotates and revolves around the Earth every 27.3 days.
Eclipses What is an eclipse? The total or partial obscuring of one celestial body by another. Eclipses occur when the moon’s orbit which is tilted becomes.
Solar and Lunar Eclipses. What is an eclipse? An eclipse occurs any time something passes in front of the Sun, blocking its light. This can be the Earth.

Solar Eclipse Friday 20/3/2015

Success Criteria I can state how a solar eclipse can occur when the sun is so much larger than the moon and earth. I know the safety rules and behaviour expectations required for the event. I can safely observe the solar eclipse without damaging my vision or going blind ;) Learning Intention – Understand and safely observe a solar eclipse.

A solar eclipse doesn't happen very often The most recent full solar eclipse was in There have been partial eclipses since this time. The reason why they don’t happen often is due to the orbits of the Sun, Moon and Earth are different. When the Sun, Moon and Earth line up there is a solar eclipse.

Orbits The Earth orbits the Sun. The Moon orbits the Earth.

The Moons orbit is not spherical but elliptical. At times it is closer to Earth making it look larger than it is.

The Sun is 400x the size of the Moon and _______x the size of the Earth.

The fact the Sun is so far away makes the Sun look smaller and the Moon looks around the same size, it can roughly mask the Sun causing an eclipse.

Not everyone sees an eclipse at the same time.
