+ What is curriculum? Curriculum represents what should be taught. It is an explicit (very specific ) and comprehensive (all inclusive) plan that is based on content and process standards.

+ What are standards? Standards are the skills and knowledge base expected of students for a particular subject area at a particular grade level.

+ What are essential learnings? Essential Learnings are the backbone of a guaranteed and viable (very successful) curriculum. Aligned with standards, these focus on skills, content, concepts students are expected to learn so that they will be prepared for the next year of education.

+ What is Depth of Knowledge? Depth of Knowledge is how much you learn in all content areas. Recall, Level 1: Requires recall of information, such as a fact, definition, term, or performance of a simple process or procedure. Skills & Concepts, Level 2: Requires students to make decisions on how to approach a question or problem. Strategic Thinking, Level 3: Requires students to explain, generalize or connect ideas. Extended Thinking, Level 4: Requires complex reasoning, planning, developing and thinking over an extended period of time, e.g., developing a hypothesis or performing complex analyses.
