20 Graduate-level skills are a must for an increasing proportion of jobs. The teaching of these skills should not be viewed as a discretionary ‘add-on’ – they are vital to enable graduates to apply their degree skills to the workplace (CBI Education and Skills survey 2009)

21 All our courses embed these Graduate Skills – which were recommended by our Industrial Liaison Group to enhance our Graduate employment

22 What are these graduate skills?  Self-management Responsibility, flexibility, self-starting, a readiness to improve on performance based on feedback/reflective learning  Teamworking Respecting others, co-operating, negotiation, discussion contribution  Business and Customer Awareness Basic understanding of key drivers in business – innovation – customer satisfaction  Problem Solving Analysis – thinking outside the box – creative thinking – confidence in the above  Communication and Literacy Listening and questioning – ability to produce clear concise oral and written literacy

In order to fill these vacancies, candidates will require candidates to be skilled in science, maths, engineering and technology subjects, said Sarah Morris, spokesperson for the CBI.
