FOOD DISTRIBUTION Summer Food Service Program

DETERMINATION OF ASSISTANCE BY USDA - SFSP o The Richard B. Russell National School Lunch Act (NSLA)  Does not requires the Department of Agriculture (USDA) to provide a minimum level of commodities to each State for the SFSP (per-meal rate). SFSP Entitlement – Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) has traditionally provided donated food assistance valued at $0.015 (1.5 cents) per meal served. – Based on the total estimated number of lunches served during the summer period between July 1 and June 30 of each year » 2013 Meal Count = 1,119,397

STATE ENTITLEMENT $$’s

ENTITLEMENT DOLLARS At STATE LEVEL PRIOR YEAR MEALS (July 1 thru June 30) Donated Food Assistance Level States Total Entitlement $$

DETERMINING SPONSOR’S FAIRSHARE OF ENTITLEMENT $’S Sponsor’s % of States total Reimbursable Lunches Served (July 1 thru June 30) Total Entitlement $$’s for SFSP Each Sponsor’s Fair Share Amt of SFSP Ent $$’s

DETERMINING SPONSOR’S FAIRSHARE OF ENTITLEMENT $’S o Did not operate last year – o Will use your approved level of meal service and operating days to determine your fair share of the sliced cheese we will purchase

SLICED CHEESE o We will be purchasing sliced cheese again this year  Why? – The relatively small amount of entitlement is not near enough to cover all the food you use during summer feeding. – Is universally accepted and easy to use within the program – At the time we ordered the cheese, it cost $1.88/lb, which meant we could get 298 cases of cheese.

HOW TO GET YOUR CHEESE o Send in your Request Forms  Located in your packet you receive  Tell us how many cases you would like to receive  Don’t know??? – As your vendor for assistance  If we do not receive a request form from you, you will not receive any cheese Most of your vendors know the cheese is available YOU MUST CHECK WITH YOUR VENDOR TO DETERMINE THE AMOUNT OF CHEESE NEEDED AND DETERMINE WHICH OF YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR PICKING UP THE CHEESE Once we determine the # of cases requested and the # of cases available, we will determine how many cases you can have

HOW TO GET YOUR CHEESE o Cheese will be shipped to Wood Fruitticher Grocery Co in Birmingham  During the month of May  Available for pickup after you receive notice from us of how many cases you are to receive.  Please be sure to get your cheese by June 30. o Storage and Handling  Fee of $1.05 for each case that you pick-up  You will pay that to Wood Fruitticher  If you wish to have it delivered to you, you will have to make arrangements with Wood Fruitticher and negotiate a delivery price with them. Please Note: This will be considerably more than $1.05

WHAT FOOD DISTRIBUTION HAS PROVIDED IN YOUR PACKETS o Your packet consists of:  2 copies of the USDA Commodity Agreement  1 copy of the Request Form for the cheese Both agreements and the request form must be:  Completed, Signed & Returned with your Summer Food Service Program Agreement We will return 1 copy of the Commodity Agreement to you along with a letter telling you how many cases of cheese you have been allocated  As of this year, this agreement will be permanent  Returning Sponsors will not have to complete another Commodity Agreement
