Using limonene from oranges

Limonene Limonene is found in lots of natural products, especially citrus fruits. It gives them their distinctive smell and taste. Scratch and sniff an orange!

Properties of Limonene Air fresheners – nice smell Solvent used in cleaners –degreaser for dissolving fats and oils in cleaning products –Used in paint to dissolve ingredients like pigments

Making Limonene cleaners Oranges are grown to make orange juice. Bits of orange peel and waste are left over after the juice has been made. These can be used to make the limonene cleaner. Oranges squeezed to make juice. The limonene is extracted from the waste. It is then used in cleaners and other products.

Using Limonene from citrus fruits Good use of a waste product from juice industry. Renewable – as long as trees can grow! Does need energy to extract the oil from the fruit waste.
