Assembling Your Own Personal Board of Directors Presented by

What is a personal board of directors? A personal board of directors guides, questions, and supports you when you’re faced with critical challenges and changes in your career. In other words, it’s your personal posse, tribal elders, confidants, or “go-to” peeps.

Who needs one? You do!

Why should I have one? Because your board can… Be a valuable resource outside of your workplace Serve as confidants Help you when you need it most

Who should serve on my board? Be picky! When choosing members to serve on your board, keep the following in mind…

Who should serve on my board? Choose individuals who Know your strengths and weaknesses Can provide objective advice

Who should serve on my board? Another important consideration… The best personal boards consist of a diverse range of backgrounds and perspectives.

Who should serve on my board? Something else to keep in mind… The best board members ask questions, draw analogies, and make fair observations.

How to assemble your board Step 1: List names People who know you well e.g., a sibling, friend, partner Advisors in your professional life e.g., accountant, attorney, speech coach People you admire e.g., senior executive, parents, professor
