EPGP-EG , IIM Indore. Course Name : EMERGING TECHNOLOGOES “Organizational Factors which helped Du Pont in Succeeding in its AI Adoption” Group Number: 3 Group Members: 1) Mr. Arbind Kumar(EG ) 2) Ms. Archana Shinde(EG ) 3) Mr. Pravin Kolhe (EG ) 4) Mr. Krushna Chnadra Satapathy (EG )

Organizational Structure of The Du Pont Organization comprised 3 broad Categories:- Operating Department, Technical Staff & Corporate Staff. Operating Department run as almost separate company. Each Operating Department has its own Manufacturing Division, R&D Division, Information System (IS) Group There exists Matrix like Structure having inter-departmental reporting structure. Some centralization is observed in Technical Staff like Central Research & Development, Engineering, Information System Department. Historically ISD received little attention from top management. The retirement incentive measures resulted in loss of expertise.

Organizational Factors leading to Du Pont’s Success Centralized Information Systems Department and autonomy in decision making resulted in creation of separate AI unit. Formation of AI Task Force on the basis of knowledge, skill & experience resulted in desired output. Members of Task Force were chosen with diversified qualification and background & with core competencies. Focus on vision and transferring it to its members by Ed Mahler formed a cohesive team. Artificial Intelligence Task force had grass root approach where it had autonomy.

Organizational Factors leading to Du Pont’s Success 1)Autonomy resulted in creativity, without any interference from top level management. 2)Fostering informal relationship resulted in employee satisfaction. 3)Focus was on functionality rather than efficiency approach augmented the success. 4)Over sight committee that monitored task force performance resulted in improvement.
