Department Lead Jeff Jahnke 25 years of teaching experience in the Engineering CAD Technology Program at Century College Industry Background: General Electric Medical Systems as a Designer and Group Lead. Credited with bringing to the program: AutoCAD, Inventor, ProE/Creo and SolidWorks CAD software to the program. Co-founder of Century’s FabLab. Brought in to give engineering and ECAD students an exposure to manufacturing and the opportunity to create prototypes of their designers.

The Team In addition to teaching ECAD credit-based classes, both instructors go into industry and teach Blueprint Reading and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing at various companies in the Twin Cities through Century’s Continuing Ed/Customized Training (CE/CT) Department Through all of their experiences, Jeff and Peggy bring insight and abilities to Minnesota manufacturing and education community today.

What is Engineering CAD Technology? Translation of ideas, rough sketches, specifications and calculations of engineers and designers into working drawings which are used in making an infinite number of products. Specifications they help develop describe exactly what material and process workers use on a particular job along with calculating the strength, reliability and costs of materials. They will work in: Manufacturing firms, Engineering companies and Industries Dealing with: Plastics, Machinery, Electrical equipment, Fabricated metal products, Textiles Transportation equipment.

Cad Programs Due to the diverse nature of the Minnesota Manufacturing community, we teach the use of a variety of software programs.

Integrated FabLab In 2008, the FabLab was created to give engineering and ECAD students an exposure to manufacturing and the opportunity to create prototypes of their own designs. Since, the FabLab has touched many other areas of the college including Chemistry, Art, Math, and Orthotics and Prosthetics. Students are offered a class through the ECAD department that is geared toward the entrepreneur that exists in all of us. Students are given the opportunity to see how the things they create in a CAD design are made on a variety of digital machines. The equipment in the FabLab has also been integrated into most of the other ECAD courses.

How they work together for a better experience

Program Awards Engineering CAD Technology Associate in Applied Science Degree, (64 credits) Digital Fabrication Technology Certificate (16 credits) Students will use Computer Aided Drafting and Design systems to create engineering drawings. Emphasis is placed on mechanical drafting standards, components and design form manufacturing. Designed for individuals interested in learning more about automation and manufacturing technologies and systems. Students enrolled in ECAD, Engineering, Math and Science programs/disciplines may benefit from a technical set of courses designed to prepare graduates for entry level employment or continuing education in technical/engineering fields. This certificate also serves as an entrance into the ECAD program.

When you Graduate with an AAS in Engineering CAD Technology… You will enter industry as “Drafters” earning salaries from $28,000 - $32,000 With experience, they will become Layout Drafters, Designers and Senior Designers Some of the companies that have hired our students are : 3M ADC Advanced Tool Aerotek Engineering Andersen Windows Army Corp. of Engineers AP Engineering Brookdale Plastics Caterpillar Deluxe Tool Doboy Inc.
