Sardina is the second largest ISLAND in the Mediterranean sea

A Task for you LOOK at the European map below and FIND the biggest ISLAND ? Whats its name?

The COASTS of Sardinia are generally rocky and high. But there are also sandy and flat coasts in the south of the island.

A task for you Point to the sandy and flat coast.

There arent high MOUNTAINS. The most important massif is GENNARGENTU (about m s.l.m.) The principal PLAINS are Campidano and La Nurra in the north-west of the island

Sardinia hasnt got big RIVERS. The most important are: Tirso, Flumendosa and Coghinas. There are lots of ARTIFICIAL LAKES.

Lots of smaller islands surround Sardinia: Asinara, Caprera, La Maddalena, San Pietro and SantAntioco.

ECONOMY The primary sector is very important: goats and sheep rearing (good production of cheese). Agricolture brings: vegetables, olive trees… sardinan wines are very good and famous. Sardinia is famous for corks Still important is the MINING INDUSTRIES (coal, lead, zinc, gold. Other industrial activities are food, mechanical and chemical. Craft industry includes rugs, jewellery, textile, lacework, basket making, and coral. But…the most important industry is TOURISM.

CULTURE On January 17 TH, in the town of Mamoiada you can see the MAMUTHONES: a traditional carnival costume.
