The Rocky Mountains Range in elevation from 8,000 – 14,259 feet At the lowest elevation is wetlands, ascending to pine forests, then areas of spruce and fir trees, eventually reaching the tundra at the higher elevations. Elk, deer, moose, sheep, coyotes, black bears, and cougars are some of the most common animals in the Rockies. The Rockies are formed of igneous and metamorphic rock and many valleys were once glaciers.
