My SurName’s Origin By: Ari Albalak Humanities 9/8/11

Albalaks in the 1400’s O During the early 15 th century the Albalaks were living in the country of Spain. In 1492 the Spanish inquisition forced them out. Eventually they arrived in the city of Monastir in current day Macedonia. People from the city of Monastir refer to themselves as "Manastirlis“. There were 24 people, and a total of six families with the surname Albalak.

Here is a map of Macedonia:

Emigration O In 1903 a rebellion began against the Turkish rulers of the Ottoman empire in Macedonia. Their was much violence among the Greeks, Serbs, and Bulgarians over the future of Macedonia. As a result thousands of Jews fled to North and South America, Jerusalem, and the Sephardic metropolis of Salonika. The Albalaks were one of the many who emigrated to Jerusalem.
