Desmos Online Graphing By Kyle Brees

About Desmos Desmos is an online graphing tool that is free to everyone. You can do a number of graphs at a time.

How to Make a graphs Along with being able to type in your graphs there are a number of templates to choose from. These templates range from math examples to art created by students.

How to use it in Class There are many applications in how to use this in a classroom setting. You could use this for introducing students to graphing, how to solve a set of equations by graphing, or as complicated as setting up functions and finding their derivatives. I want to give an example on how to use this for helping students with solving sets of equations.

Lesson Background I would want to use this tool after I had gone through the class and had already discussed finding where two lines meet by setting them equal to each other. Ex: We have 2 linear equations. Y=2x-6 and y=4x+2 to do this by hand you would have to set these equations equal to each other 2x-6=4x+2 then solve by using your algebra skills and we get x=-4

Using Desmos To do this by using desmos would be much quicker and simpler. All we have to do is enter in the graphs into desmos.

Cont. After that we simply go to the point where the two lines intersect.

Cont In the previous picture you can see that the point where the two lines meet is at (-4,-14). So that checks out with our by hand method of x=- 4. You could get use many different types of equations this was just one simple example.

Conclusion Desmos is a very good tool to use from beginners in algebra to more advanced students in a calculus course. Desmos helps students get a visual representation of what they are doing on paper.
