Copy PDF icon to images folder In SharePoint root folder. Path to the images folder is C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\Template\Images Path for the DOCICON.xml file is C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\Template\XML This line Needs to be added to the ByExtensions section. Here you need to add the file type to SharePoint. To get here open Central Administration… Click Manage Service Application… click Search Service Application… click on the left side… File Types Click… New File Type Type in file extension You will know you did this correctly if you see your pdf icon image. You add a new key to the registry for the pdf extension. Path is HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Office Server\14.0\ Search\Setup\ContentIndexCommon\Filters\E xtension You will need to create this key Full Crawl… then search Notice this is from a child site, notice that its searching on words inside the document, and the document was on the grandfather to this site! All on Foundation server 2010 with Search Server Express 2010!!
