3 Health Information Management & Systems This is the business side of healthcare, combining operations management, privacy, law, data analytics and databases, information technology, finance and revenue cycle HIMS professionals manage staff and systems to collect, store, retrieve, analyze, interpret, communicate, and protect healthcare data that is vital for healthcare delivery, reimbursement, planning and evaluation of quality patient care It is a two year program once eligible to start taking core HIMS classes School of Health & Rehabilitation Sciences

Students are eligible for a professional certification as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) Students may also be certified in other specialty areas – good thing for career prospects 100% of graduates from the HIMS program passed the RHIA exam in 2015! 6 Current OSU students: Steps to declare an HRS pre-major Complete one full term at OSU; if you are a freshman or transfer student, you can not be switched until your first term grades are posted Have an OSU GPA of at least a 2.5 Complete the HIMS MIS Quiz in Carmen and check the appropriate box to change your major Students will be notified within 2 weeks if their major was changed If for some reason we cannot change your major you will be notified explaining the reason School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences

7 As a pre-major… Students complete SHRS prerequisite courses and GEsSHRS prerequisite courses Apply to the major (one application cycle per year) Deadline is January 31 Students must earn a C- or higher on all prerequisite coursework Pre-major students must still apply to the professional program of interest School of Health & Rehabilitation Sciences
