BACKGROUND KNOWLEDGE  Opened in 1876 by Daniel Coit Gilman.  They aim for “The encouragement of research... and the advancement of individual scholars, who by their excellence will advance the sciences they pursue, and the society where they dwell.”-Daniel Coit Gilman  Has nine academic divisions and campuses in the Baltimore- Washington area.  Ranks #12 in the National University

LOCATION  Located in Baltimore, Maryland  Population- 621,342 people  About 5 hours from John Hopkins to Bradford

APPLYING  Acceptance rate is 17.7%  Early Decision is accepted  SAT composite:  ACT:  They accept AP and CLEP credits.  The AP must score at least a four.  Applicants-20,614; Accepted- 3,519; Enrolled- 1,317
