 Women’s dresses became shorter. They used to be ankle or floor length, but now they were knee and calf length.  Women wore long necklaces and they wore heels that were around three inches with a strap across them.  Lace and tassels were a big part of the 1920’s fashion.  Color of outfits were pastel colors, black and white.  Women began cutting their hair short when they were working in the factories. Men followed the example.  The most popular hairstyle was the bob. There were many versions like the French bob, straight bob, shingle bob, and Valentine bob.  Men’s facial hair was very popular, beards and mustaches. They liked to keep the style flat and plastered down.  Using marcel waves to style the bobs were popular. Women also wore a hat called a cloche which is French for fitted bell-shaped.  Children wore their hair similar to the adults, boys wore it short and parted to the side.  Eye make-up was very dark and always painted black with bright colors to make it pop.  Eyebrows were draw on manually each and everyday.  Foundation is very pale and blush was very bright red.  Lipstick was always shaded with deep red and was applied in a cupid’s bow. By: Maggie Lewis
