FACTORs & mULTIPLES A Reinforcement Lesson

To the Students – the purpose of this program is to reinforce and test your understanding of both factors and multiples, two very common terms you will use often in math. To the Teacher – your job as facilitator will be to present each slide making sure students understand the directions as well as facilitate any class discussions during the show. click mouse to continue

There are 4 different parts to this program. You will be asked to number down on your paper for each section when you come to it. You will be asked to write your answers on paper. When everyone is done with each slide’s question, just click the mouse for the answer. ~ Directions ~ Click the mouse to continue.

During the course of this slide show you will see some “Just For Fun” slides where no answers are necessary. Just click on them and enjoy! If there are no questions, click mouse for “Part 1”. One other thing ~

Part 1 factors and multiples – the first 3

To get started we’re going to do some easier exercises and work our way up. For the first part of this program you will be asked to list the first 3 factors or multiples for a given number. Then it’ll get more challenging. And…you will need to know these symbols for later on: = greater than Click the mouse for example #1

Example #1 List the first three factors for the #8. Write you answers on your paper. click for the answers if there are no questions, click for the next example 1, 2 and 4

Example #3 click for the answers if there are no questions, click for the next example Now list the first three factors for the #10. 1, 2, and 5

Now for some “tougher stuff”… Each example in Part 3 has eight answers to it. You’ll have to write eight answers for each example. The purpose of this section is to see if you now really understand the difference between factors and multiples. You will find the directions on the next slide. Click when ready…

Example #1 click for the answers if there are no questions, click for the next example Look at the number in quotes and the numbers below it. Tell whether the numbers below are a factor or a multiple or BOTH a factor AND a multiple of the top number. Write “F” if the number is a Factor, “M” if the number is a Multiple, “B” if it’s Both a factor and multiple or “N” if it’s Neither a factor or multiple. “12” 6, 24, 5, 9, 3, 2, 36, 26 F, M, N, N, F, F, M, N

Part 4 common multiples

Example #1 Let’s try something different. Look at the two numbers below and think of their multiples. What would be the first lowest multiple they both have in common? click for the answers if there are no questions, click for the next example 6 and 4 the multiples of 6 are: 6, 12, 18, 24… the multiples of 4 are: 4, 8, 12, 16… You can see that the lowest multiple they both have in common is…12

Example #5 And one last one. This is pretty hard also. What would be the first lowest multiple these three numbers have in common? click for the answers if there are no questions, click for one last message 5, 6, and 10 the multiples of 5 are: 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30… the multiples of 6, are: 6, 12, 18, 24, 30… the multiples of 10 are: 10, 20, 30, 40… you can see you had to keep going to find the first common multiple for this example…30
