KRONOS 5.1 Automatic Meal Deductions in Kronos
After reviewing this presentation, you will be able to: Ensure employees are compensated for the hours actually worked. Update/Cancel automatic meal deductions. Introduction
Issue: Recent FLSA claims for not being fairly compensated for worked meal breaks Under the FLSA, meal periods of 30 minutes or more do not count as “hours worked” but must be compensated if the employee is required to perform work related duties.FLSA The University has established a 30 to 60 minute automatic meal break deduction in Kronos for some employees, where the employee must be freed from all related work activities. This automatic meal deduction was created to avoid requiring employees to clock in and out for lunch at facilities where a clock or phone is not easily accessible. HOWEVER, if the employee is required to perform work duties during their 30 to 60 minute lunch break, their break time is to be compensated, therefore, the employee’s automatic meal deduction must be canceled.
Solution: Cancel a meal deduction in Kronos when the employee worked through their meal break Meal periods may not be skipped without the authorization from the supervisor.
