8.1.5: Finding the Area of Regular Polygons Day one

Check Answers

Check HW Answers from 8.1.4

8-43: Is there more than one way? There are always more than one way to arrive at a solution in mathematics The important question is: which is most efficient? Want many strategies in order to analyze and figure out which would be best to generalize to find area of ALL regular polygons?? When finished, have strategies checked and begin making poster (8-44)

8-44: POSTER TIME! Two different strategies for finding area of regular hexagon?? How did other group’s strategies differ from yours? Which geometric tools does this method use? Would this method help find the area of other regular polygons (like a pentagon or 100-gon)?

****Homework: Problems 8-498-54 Exit Slip Describe your two favorite strategies that you saw today.  Provide enough detail so that tomorrow you will remember each strategy. ****Homework: Problems 8-498-54

8.1.5: Finding the Area of Regular Polygons Day two

Most convenient strategy? From gallery walk…best strategy you saw? For a regular polygon with any number of sides In groups, 8-458-48

8-45: Use the BEST strategy Apply strategy to find area of other regular polygons

How can you calculate the area of any regular polygon? 8-46: MAIN IDEAS Chart  How can you calculate the area of any regular polygon?
