IMPRESSIO NISM Started in France at the end of the 19 th century, it was a response to traditional art and its strict rules. The artists involved mainly covered the years between the late 1860s through to the 1880s. The actual term of Impressionism came around from the art critic Louis Leroy in This was from being based on the artwork Impression painted by Monet. Leroy found the term fitted the movement quite well this was based on the loose, undefined and unfinished style that was being taken up by Monet and several other Impressionist artists within there paintings. Subject matters of this art movement includes: scenes from everyday life, nature, people, Paris and still life.

THE JAPANESE BRIDGE MONET 1896 Monet created painted this water garden around 250 times located in Giverny and became a subject he explored obsessively which became the only subject Monet concentrated on. The water garden Monet started to concentrate on it when he moved first moved to Giverny, in the making of this work Monet had to get permission from local authorities to make diversions for water to run from nearby rivers. Something that I like about this work is of how Monet has made full advantage of colours, they blend in almost abstract like but trees and water are very much visible.

BANKSY Very much like Andy Warhol, Banksy re produces images in pop culture which are very recognizable. The way he does this work can be irrelevant to the visual satire to society. Banksy has made a statement about consumerism by doing his own interpretation of Monet’s work. The shopping trolleys and traffic cones makes Banksy work different to the original I actually prefer this design better the contrast between the greens add more depth into this work.

ALFRED SISLEY THE BRIDGE AT VILLENEUVE-LA-GARENNE 1872 The bridge itself connects the village into the suburb of Saint- Denis in Paris. Shortly after it was built was when Sisley painted this piece of work. It is a clos up of the bridge showing holiday makers along the shore and on the river. The reflection in the river is capturing the fleeting effect from the bright summer sunshine. I have selected this piece of work because I it is a good example of different tones and textures within the work. The river which is highly realistic but has a sense of different strokes of the brush has been used, something as a fine art student I could learn from within my own work.

LEONID AFREMOV BRIDGE OF AMSTERDAM Afremov is a modern impressionistic artist, he mainly uses oil paints and a palette knife within his work. He is a self-representing artist meaning he sells and promotes himself over the internet. Afremov has very limited experience within art dealers and very little exhibitions. The colours within this work is what originally got my attention. They give out an exciting and interesting effect. An abstracted feeling but highly realistic. I think the way that Afremov has used oil paints has had an effective input especially with the water.
