Decimals Dividing
Setup: Setup: There are different ways a division problem can be written. Whether it has a decimal or not, you still have to know where each number belongs so you can set up the problem correctly. the first number goes inside the division symbol Types: Number sentence form: Fraction form: the top number goes inside the division symbol Word problem form : An object 3.8 feet long is cut into 2 pieces. the original length goes inside the division symbol
There are two types of decimal division problems: The OUTSIDE number is the divisor We will learn the “no decimal” type first The divisor has no decimal The divisor has a decimal
TYPE 1 Dividing when the divisor has no decimal (The divisor is the outside number)
Divisor has no decimal: Step 1: write the problem using a division symbol Step 2: Take the inside decimal straight up. Step 3: Divide as if the decimal was never there The Answer is on top

All the division problems we’ve worked so far have ended with a zero remainder. Now let’s work a problem that ends with a remainder that’s not a zero.
Divisor has no decimal: Step 1: write the problem using a division symbol Step 2: Take the inside decimal straight up. Step 3: Divide as if the decimal was never there The Answer is on top Write a zero at the end 0 Write another zero at the end 0 4 We indicate a repeating decimal by writing a line over the repeating digits. 0 We keep getting a remainder of ‘4’, this gives us a repeating ‘6’ in the answer Repeating 6’s
