VOCABULARY GEOMETRIC FIGURES

POLYGON Is a closed plane figure formed by three or more line segments that meet at points called vertices.

HEPTAGON Is a closed plane shape formed by SEVEN line segments.

NONAGON Is a closed plane shape formed by NINE line segments.

REGULAR POLYGON A polygon with all sides congruent and all angles congruent.

CONGRUENT A figure with all the same length line segments and has the same measurement for each angle.

EQUILATERAL TRIANGLE A triangle with three congruent sides.

ISOSCELES TRIANGLE A triangle with 2 congruent sides.

SCALENE TRIANGLE A triangle with no congruent sides.

QUADRILATERALS A closed figure made by four sides and four angles.

PARALLELOGRAM A closed shape with opposite sides congruent and parallel.

RECTANGLE Is a special parallelogram with four right angles and four pairs of perpendicular lines.

SQUARE Is a special parallelogram with four congruent sides and four right angles.

RHOMBUS A special parallelogram with four congruent sides.

TRAPEZOID A quadrilateral with exactly one pair of parallel lines.

POLYHEDRONS A solid figure that has three dimension: height, width, length with faces that form polygons.

PRISM Is a polyhedron that has two congruent polygons as bases.

PYRAMID Is a polyhedron with only one base.

BASES The bottom shape or face of a solid object.

LATERAL FACES The polygons that connect with the base to form the sides of a polyhedron.

EDGES Is a line segment that joins to vertices.

VERTEX OR VERTICES Are a point where two or more line segments meet.

NETS A pattern that you can cut and fold to make a model of a solid shape.
