Progress to date National Green Fund of R800 Million, with R300m in 2012/13 and, R500m in 2013/14 The Green Fund represents a critical resource mechanism to achieve a green economy and transition South Africa onto a low carbon, resource efficient growth path. The Green Fund will establish an evidence base consisting of lessons learnt through funding the implementation of programmes and projects which may inform future programmes and financial support offered by the government of South Africa. An Investment Strategy for the long term sustainability of the fund is being developed Fiscal Mechanism

Fund eligibility criteria : All applications were subjected to the following eligibility criteria: Relevance: match to the funding Window and focus areas therein Innovation: the project is new and unique in the green economy space. This innovation can relate to any of the following aspects: technology, business model, institutional arrangements, or financing approach. Additionality: the project cannot proceed without the Green Fund’s financial support and a funding gap should be demonstrated. Ability to scale up and/or replicate: the project has the potential to be rolled out to other sites and/ or to be implemented at a large scale.
