Every human does this about 20,000 times per day.

What is breathe in and out?

This stuff changes the characteristics of our air, which can make it hard to breathe and make existing respiratory and cardiac conditions worse.

What is air pollution?

These people breathe faster, drawing air deeper into their lungs, as a function of doing their job well. This puts them at a higher risk from poor air quality.

Who are athletes?

These go through an automatic gas exchange thousands of times per day, about every 3 seconds, inside each of us.

What are the lungs?

These people are at higher risk of reacting to poor air quality because of increased likelihood of health problems.

Who are seniors?

These areas are often better suited for exercise because of reduced exposure to automobile exhaust.

What are parks?

Choices we make in our communities such as driving our cars or burning wood to heat our homes, significantly impact this.

What is air quality?

Just 10 seconds of this can use more fuel than turning off the engine and restarting it.

What is idling?

It creates 50 % more emissions if it’s poorly maintained.

What is your vehicle?

It replaces up to 4 cars on the road while saving you time and money.

What is carpooling?

A full one takes up to 60 cars off the road.

What is a bus?

Your workplace might provide these for commuting by public transit or carpooling. If not, ask them to consider it.

What are rewards/incentives?

This is one of the largest sources of air pollution in Canada.

What is transportation

If a million Canadians did this just one day every year, it’s estimated about 250 million kg of emissions would be eliminated.

What is work from home?

People can use this Index on a daily basis to help decide if they should drive their vehicle or choose a different mode of transportation such as cycling or taking the bus.

What is the Air Quality Health Index?

This is the #1 cause of hospital admissions among children in Canada.

What is asthma?

Children are more vulnerable to air pollution because they do more of this, especially during summer when pollution levels can be higher.

What is play outside?

Young children can be more adversely affected by poor air quality because they do this more rapidly.

What is breathe?

Emissions from these can significantly impact local air quality, visibility and human health

What are forest fires?

Children and parents can check this index every day before school and work to help plan their daily outdoor activities.

What is the Air Quality Health Index

This gas shields us from the sun in the upper atmosphere, but poses a risk to human health at ground level

What is ozone?

20% of the vehicles on the road travel less than ____ kilometres in one car trip.

What is 1 kilometre?

Running your gas powered lawnmower for this amount of time is equal to driving a new car between 320 and 480 kilometres.

What is one hour?

The number of Canadians who use public transit on a regular basis.

What is 12 million?

When the Air Quality Health Index is in the high range, lowering this when outside can reduce air pollution impacts on your health.

What is your amount of exertion?

Play the Air Quality Health Index Jeopardy Game
