How to Become One? Education: Veterinarians must complete a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree at an accredited college Also called a D.V.M. or V.M.D. Most applicants to veterinary school have a bachelor’s degree (not required though) Veterinary medical colleges typically require applicants to have taken many classes in science, including biology, chemistry, anatomy, physiology, zoology, microbiology, and animal science Some programs also require classes in math and humanities or social science License: All states require veterinarians to have a license All prospective veterinarians to pass the North American Veterinary Licensing Exam Most states also require people to take the state exam that covers state laws and regulations Few states accept licenses from other states so if people want to be a veterinarian in another state, they would most likely have to take the test again

Pay The median annual wage of veterinarians is $82,040

Job Outlook Employment of veterinarians is expected to grow 36 percent from 2010 to 2020 The need for veterinarians will increase due to the growing pet population Owners say that their pet is apart of their family so families will pay more for their treatment and care Also, veterinary medicine has advanced considerably, and many of the veterinary services offered today are comparable to health care for humans, including cancer treatments and kidney transplants.

Similar Occupations There are many different occupations that are close to veterinarian jobs Ex: Agricultural and Food scientist Animal Care and Service Workers Medical Scientists Physicians and surgeon Etc.
