Each chromosome is on it’s own in mitosis-chromosome replication and separation occurs independently for each horse and donkey chromosome. In meiosis homologous chromosomes must pair in Prophase I. This cannot occur (nor can synapsis) because there is not an equal number of horse and donkey chromosomes in the diploid cell.
